Description
Among Camellia enthusiasts Sea Foam is recognized as one of the most elegant of all Camellia japonica. Appearing in late winter through early spring its lovely, perfectly formed formal double flowers with pure white petals are breathtaking. The flowers resemble those of double Gardenia and stand out wonderfully in stark contrast to the large, lustrous, dark-green leaves. An excellent cut flower and beautiful in indoor flower arrangements or float just one in a bowl of water.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 10 to 12 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, the Sea Foam Camellia can be grown as a shrub or small tree. As a shrub it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a hedge or background plant in landscape borders and is especially nice as a corner plant or espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) in home foundation plantings. As the plant grows, lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive small evergreen tree that serves well as a focal point specimen in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to white color theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors overwinter for those who live above USDA Zone 7a, where not winter hardy. Find Your Zone
Suggested Spacing: 5 to 6 feet apart for solid hedge; 12 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.

I wondered how plants would do in the mail. The plant arrived early, in just a couple of days. The weather in the south was mild that week (January) so it wasn’t exposed to any extremes. It was surprisingly well packaged. The leaves were luxuriantly green and the roots were healthy and plentiful. I planted it two weeks ago and it is flourishing so far. There were no buds on the plant so I won’t see how the blooms look until next year. I can’t wait. Very satisfied.————————————————-Thanks for the kind words! We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
I thought I would take the time to tell you how happy I am to have found your site and store. Your care in packaging my plants as well as the health and quality of those plants was just spectacular. Your pricing was very reasonable if I dare say economical for the fact that I would not find the type or quality of plant at my local garden store. I have a few high-end nurseries in my area, but the prices are outrageous and nowhere within my budget.
I am a novice gardener and I just try to follow instructions and hope for the best. At first, I thought the plants might be stressed or shocked. There were some dropped leaves, some weird spots and l was uneasy. But your planting instructions were wonderful and all of your plants are happily now showing signs of budding. The Camellias are tucked near an east facing tree where I think they’ll get just enough shelter and filtered morning light. The Sweet Olive are staged 5 feet apart in my south facing front yard.
I may not know much about gardening, but I’ve seen enough to know when a company has integrity and puts their heart and soul into a product. For that reason, you have a customer for life!
