Description
Liriope plants, commonly called Lilyturf, are an evergreen perennial of the lily family. They are one of the most widely used groundcover plants in existence – and for very good reason. Royal Purple Liriope features large spikes of beautiful deep-purple flowers that rise above clumps of rich green grassy foliage in summer. The flowers are followed by attractive black berries. Unlike other Liriope varieties that spread wildly, Royal Purple forms neat clumps that gradually increase in size over time, making it a perfect choice for use as a border along walkways and paths or as an evergreen groundcover in landscape beds and under trees. The butterflies and hummingbirds will love the deep purple flowers and thank you for planting this one!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a mounded clump 14 to 18″ tall and 18″ wide, Royal Purple Liriope is ideal for use as an accent, a border edger along paths, walkways and patios, or as a groundcover under large trees or in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. Also a nice grassy accent as a solo or in combination container gardens. A fine addition to purple theme gardens, butterfly gardens, hummingbird gardens, and shade gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 12 to 18 inches apart for mass plan tings or solid edger border

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of  USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5b, where this Liriope is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.Â
Growing Preferences
Royal Purple Liriope is exceptionally easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun or shade. Tolerates dry soil conditions well when established. As with many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic.

The phone staff was very knowledgeable. The first order came quickly and looked great.
I got those 18 planted and since the weather was holding, I ordered a duplicate. I requested a rush order so I could still plant before it got too cold. They delivered! Not sure if I will love these Royal Purple Liriope, but their description was perfect…smallish, evergreen grass with flower and stays controlled.—————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks ————————— WBG Reply: Hi George – Thanks so much for your review of the Royal Purple Liriope and we hope you enjoy them for years to come. They are rated cold hardy in USDA Zone 5 so should do fine there in La Plata, Missouri, which is in zone 5. Keep us posted as to how they do for you and let us know if there’s ever anything else we can help you with. We’re at your service! – Brent | Wilson Bros Gardens
