Description
Its upright, dense, conical form and the softly blended pink and white flowers put October Magic Dawn Camellia in a category of its own. The large double flowers are produced in abundance in fall and into early winter. The shiny evergreen leaves are dark green throughout the year and provide a wonderful backdrop for the gorgeous flowers. A truly spectacular selection for gardeners who love Camellia’s.
Landscape & Garden Uses
A smaller growing Camellia with an upright habit of growth to about 4 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide (depending on pruning), October Magic Dawn is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, as a hedge or background plant, and is especially nice as espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) or between windows in home foundation plantings. A fine addition to Camellia gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter by those who live above USDA Zone 7a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy. Find Your Zone
Suggested Spacing:Â 3 feet apart for solid hedge; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note:Â Â For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.

Plant arrived in NC in 2 days and in good shape. No wilted or damaged leaves or stems. We have little top soil here, and lots of hard clay, so I dug a deep and wide hole and added a lot of organic soil and compost mixture. Hopefully it will develop good roots when it starts growing in spring.—————————————–Hi Charles, Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the October Magic Dawn Camellia.
