Description
A fragrant cross between V. carlesii and V. bitchiuense made by William Judd at the Arnold Arboretum in 1920, Judd Viburnum produces abundant snowball shaped clusters of pink buds that open to wonderfully fragrant white flowers flushed in soft pink. Red berries that age to black follow the flowers and outstanding purple fall foliage add to the overall appeal of this attractive plant. Can be grown as a mounding shrub or lower branches removed to form an attractive, small specimen tree. Make sure to plant this one near patios, decks, porches and other outdoor areas where the fragrance can be enjoyed from up close.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a rounded mound 6 to 8 feet tall and equally or slightly wider, the JuddViburnum is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in landscape and flowering shrub borders. As this Viburnum grows taller, lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive small tree useful as a focal point specimen in landscape borders or home foundation plantings. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, white theme gardens, cut flower gardens, cottage gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing:Â 5 to 6 feet apart for hedge; 12 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Viburnum is very easy to grow in moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. It prefers a loamy soil so amend heavy clay or poor soils with compost, bagged top soil or other organic matter. As with so many other ornamental plants, it does not like constantly soggy or wet conditions. Very drought tolerant when established and we’ve seen no serious pest or disease problems. Deer haven’t touched it in our gardens. We suggest 5 hours or more of direct sunlight for best flowering. Responds very well to pruning for shaping, size control and tree forming. Prune as needed immediately after flowering.

The one gallon plant of the 4 ordered plants arrived yesterday evening, a day before the expected date of delivery. The condition of the plant far exceeds all my expectations in every respect, since this is my very first experience with purchasing plants online. The plant was in perfect shape, and the soil was moist to the touch, and now lo anxiously await the other 3 plants arrival today. I was surprised as to how big the plant was, and i could not be more pleased with the way it was packaged. Thank you Wilson Bros Gardens, and thank you to Sunny for your very helpful comments in answering all my questions over the phone! I look forward to making more purchases with Wilson Bros Gardens.—————————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come!
