Description
Fragrant Snowball Viburnum – Korean Spice, Viburnum carlesii, is well known for its large, fragrant snowball-shaped flower clusters produced in abundance during the spring season. Pink flower buds open to gorgeous aromatic white clusters 4 inches across that fill your garden with wonderful fragrance. Red berries follow the flowers and add to the appeal of this attractive plant. Can be grown as a large shrub or lower branches removed to form an attractive, small specimen tree. Make sure to plant this one near patios, decks, porches and other outdoor areas where the fragrance can be enjoyed from up close.
Landscape & Garden Uses
With an upright habit and rounded form 8 to 10 feet tall and wide, the Fragrant Snowball Viburnum is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in landscape and flowering shrub borders. As this Viburnum grows taller, lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive small tree useful as a focal point specimen in landscape borders or home foundation plantings. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, white theme gardens, cut flower gardens, cottage gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing:Â 6 feet apart for hedge; 14 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Viburnum is very easy to grow in moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. It prefers a loamy soil so amend heavy clay or poor soils with compost, bagged top soil or other organic matter. As with so many other ornamental plants, it does not like constantly soggy or wet conditions. Very drought tolerant when established and we’ve seen no serious pest or disease problems. Deer haven’t touched it in our gardens. We suggest 5 hours or more of direct sunlight for best flowering. Responds very well to pruning for shaping, size control and tree forming. Prune as needed immediately after flowering.

I regularly order from Wilson Bros and this purchase was consistent with their great packing and quality plants. Just planted this so have to wait for real Spring in New Hampshire.———————————————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
The plant arrived in a 2 gallon pot in wonderful condition (1 small branch broken from shipping not a problem), which I kept moist for approximately 1 week until I prepared a spot for planting it. Now, almost 2 weeks later, it is doing fine. I don’t expect to see blossoms this year, as the plant is only a little over 2 feet tall. I do hope to see blossoms next year.————————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
This was larger than expected. Nice, healthy plant. Had one of these at my last house, but was too big to transplant. Can’t wait for the fragrance when this blooms.——————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come!
