Description
A truly stunning and cold hardy fall blooming Camellia, Autumn Spirit produces an abundance of gorgeous, double flowers with somewhat shaggy, intense bright pink to fuchsia petals in early fall to late fall and sometimes early winter. The flowers and beautiful dark green foliage are excellent for cutting and displaying in your favorite vase. A small growing camellia to 5 to 6Â feet tall and wide, Autumn Spirit fits nicely in smaller spaces where larger camellias won’t fit.
Landscape & Garden Uses
A small growing Camellia with an upright habit of growth to about 5 to 6 feet tall and equally as wide, Autumn Spirit can be grown as a shrub or small tree. As a shrub, it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a hedge or background plant and is especially nice as espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall). Lower branches can be removed to form a small evergreen tree that serves well as an attractive focal point specimen in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to camellia gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter by those who live above USDA Zone 6a, where this camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy. Find Your Zone
Suggested Spacing:Â 4 feet apart for solid hedge; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note:Â Â For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.

I am new to camellia culture, but this one checked all the boxes: not too tall, gorgeous blooms in the fall (and hopefully on into the winter months). The plant arrived in great condition and was planted yesterday. I have high hopes for its success over the next few years. Thanks for a great product.—————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
This plant was huge! I think the autumn blooming Camellias are better suited to colder, long zone 6 winters, because they bloom before the nasty cold arrives, as opposed to the buds sitting until spring and possibly getting killed by cold. Looking forward to it blooming!————————————————We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Keep us posted! Thanks for the great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
I bought this camellia and two others in the three gallon size; all three came in perfect condition. They were so well packaged! I was very excited to find the breadth of selection available, and the quality of the plants did not disappoint. Really beautiful. My new favorite place to buy specialty plants!—————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
As has been the case with every order I have gotten from this store so far, the plants came incredibly well packed and in excellent condition – not a single branch broken. I ordered the 3 gal. size and it was also larger than I was expecting, which is always a great surprise. I cannot comment on the blooms or cold hardiness yet, but the other camellias I have ordered from here have survived just fine so I expect this one will be no different. I would definitely recommend this product and this business if you are looking for a wide selection of camellias.—————————————–We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! For years I have dreamed about planting camellias in my Zone 6b garden here in the Shenandoah valley. The 3-gallon hybrid Autumn Spirit I ordered arrived in excellent condition, as well as two others that arrived a few days later. All are in ground, and I look forward to seeing them flourish.————————–WBG Reply: Hi Elizabeth, Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Autumn Spirit Camellia.
